Market may squeeze teens out of summer jobs (1/3ページ)
A search for a job this summer probably won't be a day at the beach for teenagers.
Nationally, job seekers are facing a tight market this summer. Nearly half of traditional hourly employers surveyed do not intend to take on any new seasonal workers in 2008, according to a survey by SnagAJob.com.
"Employers are facing an uncertain summer and anticipating slower-than-normal sales, which have led to tighter budgets," said Shawn Boyer, chief executive officer of SnagAJob.com, an online search engine for hourly jobs.
Less consumer spending, a higher minimum wage and rising gas prices may hamper teens' chances of finding their dream job, experts say. These factors also may force them to look sooner and look closer to home this year.
